Chelsea Independent College
One of the best sixth form colleges in London, Chelsea was founded from a very simple ideal; to provide a solid academic education focusing on the demands of the examination systems. We never lose sight of the important goal of our students which is entry to top universities often in high demand disciplines. However we also realise the importance of developing a genuine passion and curiosity in all that our students study. As such our teaching staff are chosen for their ability to bring their individual subjects alive, and to develop the learning process outside of the classroom. They achieve this by inviting outside speakers to bring their insight into the classroom, and by visiting places of interest in London where academia can be seen in a more real setting.
We are fortunate to be located in the centre of London and to have the many facilities this vibrant city offers us. We attempt to make use of all of the surrounding theatres, galleries and museums as well as the many exhibitions which take place through the year. We also believe that developing a student’s range of experience is crucial in an ever more competitive world, and as such the extra-curricular programme at the college provides opportunity for personal development in many areas.
Parents and students often ask what type of student gains entry to Chelsea and some of the important characteristics we look for are:
- Genuine academic curiosity
- A real passion in subjects being followed at Advanced level
- A mature approach to relationships with all of those at the college, both peers and staff
- Wanting to make a contribution to the college through extra-curricular activities
- A willingness to work hard and to want to succeed
- Someone who is a ready questioner and is at ease in the classroom
International Application Process
If you are from outside the EU, it is likely that you will need to apply for a Tier 4 Student Visa to study in the UK. Chelsea Independent College has a Highly Trusted Status licence from the UK Border Agency which allows us to sponsor international students. To ensure that we retain our Highly Trusted Status, we follow a strict admission process. Each application is individually assessed and places are only offered to students who meet our admission criteria and who we feel will meet and exceed college expectations.
Chelsea Independent College is able to issue CAS numbers for both Tier 4 Child and General visas. Under the Points Based System (PBS), your CAS will be worth 30 points. You will need to provide proof of your maintenance funds to gain the further 10 points needed for your visa.
International students who are already studying in the UK are encouraged to attend an interview with the Principal or Assistant Principal so that they can discuss their course choices and take an opportunity to look around the school. However, we do recognise that not all international students can attend an interview. Therefore, we ask for certain documents to be sent to us so that we can assess the application.
To make an application, please send the following documents to firstname.lastname@example.org
1) A copy of your IELTS certificate (or equivalent)
2) A copy of your latest school reports along with any exam results
3) A copy of an academic reference from your school
4) A short personal statement explaining why you would like to study in the UK
5) A copy of your passport
If you are offered a place, you will need to accept your place in writing by the date specified in the offer letter.
To confirm your place at the college, you will need to send us a completed application form along with a non refundable registration fee of £500. As an international student, you will be asked to pay a deposit before CAS is issued. The deposit will be held against your final term’s fees.
