CURRICULUM
The School Curriculum reflects the career minded aspirations of both parents and pupils with an outstanding record of academic achievement and entry to higher education with particular excellence in Mathematics, Science, Music and Creative Arts. The emphasis at Badminton is on all round education and both the curriculum and the timetable are constructed to create this balance between academic achievement, personal development, life skills and other enterprising activity. Girls are involved in sports teams, music, Duke of Edinburgh, Young Enterprise and boarding activities right into the Sixth Form.

In 2008 Badminton celebrated the 150th anniversary of its foundation in 1858. The School was started by Mrs Miriam Badock to educate girls, many of whose parents lived abroad, and to offer girls the same educational opportunities as their brothers. Even in its early days, the curriculum at Badminton was broad and extra-curricular activities, including sport, were encouraged, very unusually for girls in the mid 19th century.

Badminton School boasts first class educational facilities. Our first priority is naturally to our own pupils, but there are certain times of the week and the year when some of our facilities are available for hire.

25 metres indoor swimming pool is perfect for swimming lessons, recreational swimming, aqua aerobics, canoeing, life guard training and swimming clubs. We have no space in our pool timetable to accommodate requests for regular sessions at present, but do try us if you are looking for a single hire. We regret that we are unable to accommodate parties or similar events.

This beautiful hall, which seats up to 250 people, can be hired for conferences, as a performance space or dance hall.

An ideal venue for hockey clubs and as an athletics venue. The specialist nature of the playing surface means that it is not suitable for football.

The school has seven outdoor tennis courts and four netball courts for hire by clubs and private coaches.

The gym is marked out for volleyball and badminton. The gym can also be used for sports such as fencing, aerobics, judo, self defence, dance, basketball and yoga.

This is a smaller, intimate space, seating about 30 – 100 people, used in the past for yoga, pilates and small presentations and seminars.

Bartlett House is the home for girls in Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 (9-12 years old). Bartlett House has a very cosy, home-from-home atmosphere with rooms accommodating between three and four girls. It has its own common rooms equipped with games, DVD and Wii and is set in the very heart of the school.

In 2008 we opened Sanderson House, a state-of-the-art boarding house designed to be home for boarders in years 9, 10 and 11 (aged 13-16). It offers girls first class facilities in a welcoming and caring environment and includes light and airy bedrooms for three or four with study and IT facilities, under-floor heating, modern entertainment and kitchen.

We advise parents to apply early, as girls are normally assessed in the 12 months prior to entry. The next step is to complete and return the registration form with the registration fee.

Entrance exams take place for the Sixth Form in November. Sixth Formers are interviewed, take papers in two subjects that they would like to study for A-Level and a General English paper.

Senior girls are interviewed and take entrance exams in January. The exams are in English and Maths and they will also complete an online adaptive test. Scholarships and bursaries are available for girls entering Years 7, 9 and 12. Badminton has a policy of not giving out past papers.

Junior School children come for a taster and assessment day, primarily during the autumn or spring terms.  Girls in Year 3 upwards are asked to sit short tests in Maths, English and Non Verbal Reasoning.
