Ardvreck School – is widely recognized as Scotland’s leading boarding prep school.

Ardvreck School is an independent boarding school, located in Crieff in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It was established in 1883.

The story has often been told of a day in September 1883 when a thirty three year old man called Mr Frost sat down for tea with his mother, sisters and four little boys.  After eating much cake, a school was born.

This was nearly one hundred and thirty years ago and these facts seem quite easy to understand. Mr Frost was our school’s first Headmaster , and Ardvreck is known as one of the finest prep schools within the United Kingdom. Yet facts do not always tell the whole story and to understand this particular narrative we are required to probe deeper and to use our imagination.

Facilities

Most of the classrooms have been built since 1983, including a dedicated Expressive Arts Centre (housing music, drama and art).  Other classrooms include Mathematics, ICT rooms, science laboratory, Geography and French rooms.  Little Ardvreck and Forms 1 and 2 classrooms are all situated in the same area of the school and make up a thriving Junior School.

The sports facilities include a covered swimming pool and recently redeveloped sports fields, astro pitches and artificial turf cricket pitch. The school has a very fine multi-purpose sports hall, additionally equipped with cricket nets and a climbing wall.

Ardvreck is widely recognized as Scotland’s leading boarding prep school and is Scotland’s only full boarding prep school.

We have three houses: Junior House (7-11), Mac House (boys aged 11-13) and Erskine House (girls aged 11-13).  Ardvreck is unique in having two purpose built boarding houses for our senior pupils.

Our younger boarders live in the main school building.  The boys and girls are well supported by a dynamic and caring house team.  Dorms are cosy and comfortable and common rooms are available for both boys and girls.

The Junior House Team is led by a Housemistress who lives in the building.  The Housemistress is assisted by a Housemaster and one full time residential matron, all of whom specialise in the care of young boarders.  Four gap students also live in Junior House and assist with the daily routines of the school.

Erskine House is dedicated to the care of Ardvreck’s senior girls aged 11-13.

Boarders and day pupils enjoy this vibrant and happy house. All the girls look forward to their two years in the house and the greater sense of freedom and responsibly that it gives them.
