Sixth Form Information

Ashby School has one of the largest and most successful Sixth Forms in Leicestershire. The impressive Sixth Form Centre currently caters for almost 600 students.

The majority of Sixth Formers are students who stay on at the school following their Year 11 studies. However, a growing number of students join each year from other schools, both inside and outside the county.

To join the Sixth Form, students must obtain five GCSEs at grades A* to C in at least four different subjects, including Mathematics and English Language.

Attendance must be at least 93 per cent.

In 2012, the pass rate at A level was 100 per cent with 17 per cent of all passes at A* and A.

Results like these allow the school to retain its proud tradition of excellence and high achievement at post-16 level.

Students leaving the school can choose from a range of careers and educational options. The majority choose to enrol on Higher Education degree courses, or opt for careers with further training.

Ashby School ensures that all students move on successfully, whatever their chosen direction.

The school prides itself on a close working relationship with parents.

Ashby School specialises in the delivery of Level 3 qualifications. The range of subjects on offer is updated annually on this website and at Lecap (Leicestershire Common Application Process)’s website. Lecap can be accessed by clicking here.

The numerous opportunities for students to become involved in activities outside the classroom include charity fundraising, sports, House activities, the School Council, working with local primary school children, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

The Sixth Form Pastoral Team is available to support, advise, monitor, and generally ensure students succeed and thrive during their time in the Sixth Form.

Sixth Form Entry 2013

If you are considering joining Ashby Sixth Form in 2013 and are at a Leicestershire School, you will need to apply through the Connexions LeCap process.

Students from outside of Leicestershire should use the online external application form. It should be noted that this form is not an application for the Boarding House.

Anyone wishing to apply to School House to be considered as a Boarder must submit a separate letter of application addressed to the Director of Boarding, at School House.

The Sixth Form accepts applications from November 2012 until March 2013.

Sixth Form Social Events – A Disclaimer

Occasionally, Sixth Form students do organise their own social events – commonly referred to as ‘Sixth Form parties’ – which take place outside of school.

The school has no involvement in the planning, running or supervision of these events and can, therefore, accept no responsibility for student behaviour or welfare on such occasions.

To this end, Sixth Formers are discouraged from promoting their own social events while they are on the school premises
