International Foundation Programme

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is a university preparation course aimed at students who wish to study towards a full university degree, but do not have the necessary British A Level qualifications or equivalent.

The programme will help you improve your English, develop the academic skills and gain the qualifications necessary to start a full degree.

The programme is suitable for those who plan to study Business, or a Business-related subject at degree level. Examples of relevant degree programmes include:

  • Business Studies
  • Business Management
  • Accounting and  Finance
  • Marketing
  • Economics

The core academic modules are recognized by many ABE partner universities worldwide and will qualify you for entry onto the first year of related UK Bachelor degrees, providing you achieve sufficient grades in the exam component.

Upon successful completion of this programme, students will have the knowledge and confidence to meet the requirements of universities in the UK.

English Level:Students from non-majority English-speaking countries should demonstrate competence in English at a minimum CEFR Level B1, equivalent to a minimum of 4.0 IELTS.*An additional English language support module is available for those who hold a Secure English Language Test (SELT) result below IELTS 5.0 or equivalent.

Students will study core academic modules in business and accounting along with language and learning skills modules:

IFP001 English:  A wide range of skills are taught and practised throughout the module, including reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as specific techniques for approaching English language tests.

IFP002 Academic English: This module aims to develop students’ academic study skills (reading and research strategies, evaluation and analysis, essay and report writing, seminar presentations and debates, reflection on learning) and teach language for specific subjects.

IFP003 Introduction to Business: This module introduces students to the basic concepts of business, providing an understanding of business objectives, structure and classification. It examines how the external environment creates opportunities and threats along with the basics of the marketing process.

IFP004 Introduction to Business Communication: This module introduces the principles of business communication to develop and apply in practice, along with business terminology  relevant to all units.

IFP005 Introduction to Quantitative Methods: This module introduces various numerical techniques to solve business problems, interpret data in a business context and provide business and management information.

IFP006 Introduction to Accounting: This module introduces students to the nature and scope of accounting and provides an understanding of double entry book-keeping, preparation of a set of final accounts, cash flow statements, financial ratio analysis, elements of cost, break-even analysis and budgeting
